Did he change his mind? If it's creative growth then he's got a ways to go -- like, realizing that this isn't hermetically sealed stuff and the true artist revises his bad lines before they get reprinted -- not to mention trimming his writing's obesity. And yet this pulp gets held up as better than the rest of the action books on the stands. I don't know, I rarely criticize stuff as being pretentious; first of all, work done without pretension is mindless, and second of all I myself am pretentious. But dude, know what? This shit is pretentious. Jim Steranko SHIELD ripoffs are all well and good but they're a lot better without a fedora and black-rimmed glasses stuck on them. And you know who's subtractive? Everyone who ever made good comics, or at least ones that are better than this one. Toth, Mignola, Gould, Barks, Herge, Ware, Kubert, Feininger, Marsh, Schulz...
